Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday,October 29,2013.

Snow showers developed across the upper Midwest on Tuesday, while rain showers developed just to the south across the Mid-Mississippi River valley. A strong low pressure system started to move off the Rockies and into the Plains. Flow around this system created a frontal boundary that extended eastward over the Mid-Mississippi River valley and into the Eastern Valleys. Showers and thunderstorms developed across the region from Arkansas and Missouri through the Ohio River valley. Rainfall totals reached over 2 inches in some places, with a midday total of 2.32 inches of rain reported at Springfield, Missouri. At the same time, cooler temperatures to the north allowed for snow showers to develop over Minnesota and Wisconsin, which moved eastward into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan throughout the day. Snowfall totals were light, but the northern most areas saw extremely chilly conditions with low temperatures in the teens.

Meanwhile in the West, a low pressure system lingered over the central Rockies and allowed for rain and snow showers to persist from southern Idaho through Colorado. Periods of heavy rain showers developed to the south of this activity over New Mexico and western Texas. The West Coast saw some cooler temperatures with areas of light rain and drizzle.
