A cold frontal boundary will extend from the upper Intermountain West to
the northern Plains, while a separate cold front will stretch from the
upper Midwest to the central Great Lakes.
An arctic air mass will begin to dip southward over the northern tier of
the country on Saturday, as below normal temperatures will sweep across
the northern Plains and upper Midwest. Snow associated with a low
pressure system is also expected to push through north central U.S.,
while the heaviest snow will occur along the western portion of the
Great Lakes. Just north of New England, a separate low pressure system
will usher light snow showers across upstate New York and northern New
England.
In the Southeast, a surge of moisture is expected to push northeastward
from the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. This system is expected to move
copious amounts of rain over the central and eastern Gulf Coast, as well
as a handful of states across the Southeast. Flooding will be possible
along the Florida Panhandle, Mississippi, Georgia and the Carolinas due
to how slow the system will be moving.
Out West, an onshore flow from the Pacific will bring a chance of rain
to the northern portion of the Pacific Northwest. Snowy weather will be
possible across the Cascades and northern Rockies as well. A ridge of
high pressure will keep the Southwest clear of precipitation, while warm
weather will persist across the region.
