Heavy precipitation continued to push across the Eastern Seaboard on
Sunday, while a cold frontal boundary stretched from the southern Plains
to the central Great Lakes.
A low pressure system continued to push northward along the East Coast
on Sunday, as heavy rain moved over a handful of Mid-Atlantic states.
Camden, S.C., reported a midday total of 2.61 inches of rain, while
Southern Pines, N.C., reported a midday total of 2.28 inches of rain.
Meanwhile, cold conditions over the Northeast allowed for a mixture of
freezing rain, sleet and snow to develop across the Northeast as winter
storm warnings were issued in parts of New York and New England. Strong
winds also accompanied this low pressure system, as Mt. Washington,
N.H., recorded wind speeds of 72 mph.
A cold front extended from the southern Plains to the central Great
Lakes on Sunday, which provided cold, blustery conditions to a handful
of states. Baudette, Minn., recorded a morning low of -29 degrees with a
wind chill factor of -41 degrees, while Grand Forks Air Force Base,
N.D., recorded a morning low of -18 degrees with a wind chill factor of
-36 degrees. To the west, a cold frontal pushed light snow across
portions of the northern Rockies.
The majority of the West Coast stayed clear of precipitation on Sunday due to a ridge of high pressure across the region.
