Hanna Weakens, Unloads Heavy Rain in Central America

The former Tropical Depression 9 that moved off the coast of Mexico last Friday has redeveloped and is moving inland over Central America.
Formerly known as Tropical Storm Hanna, the storm weakened to a tropical rainstorm Monday evening.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists have been monitoring the potential for Tropical Depression 9 to reorganize in the Caribbean since last week.
Hanna formed in warm waters of the western Caribbean, right along the coast of Nicaragua, on Monday morning. It will generally drift to the west-southwest over the next couple of days.

According to AccuWeather.com Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski, "A large area of high pressure to the north will expand southward and force Hanna inland."
Interaction with land will cause the system to weaken Monday night and Tuesday.

Hanna will unload locally drenching rain and gusty thunderstorms in Nicaragua and Honduras with the potential for flash flooding and mudslides.
Several inches of rain can fall in the general area with gusts to 50 mph possible along the coast.
Communities along the coast of Nicaragua and northeastern Honduras should be prepared for wind gusts strong enough to down trees and power lines and cause minor property damage.
Due to building seas and strong winds, small craft in the area should remain in port through Monday night. Cruise interests should steer clear of the region until the system moves inland and weakens by Tuesday.

The high pressure system to the north will prevent Hanna from moving northward into the Gulf of Mexico and approaching coastal areas of the United States. Hanna is the eighth named system in the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season.

Did you miss Tropical Storm #Hanna that developed today near Nicaragua? It has already dissipated as it moved inland.
