Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,October 26,2014

A strong Pacific system will continue to affect the Northwest on Sunday, while showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the north central portion of the country.

A strong low pressure system will move east northeastward over the Northwest on Sunday. This system will usher moderate to heavy rain across the Pacific Northwest and the lower elevations of the upper Intermountain West. High elevation snow showers, with accumulations of a few inches, can be expected over Cascades and the northern Rockies. In addition, a cold frontal boundary will extend southwestward across the central Rockies, the Great Basin and the Southwest. A mixture of rain and snow will impact the higher elevations of the central Rockies and the northern Sierra Nevada. Light to moderate showers will develop over the northern Great Basin and northern California. Conditions will stay mostly clear across the southern Great Basin and the Desert Southwest due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.

To the east, a warm front will trigger showers and thunderstorms over upper Mississippi Valley and the upper Midwest on Sunday. To the south, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring warm, muggy weather to the central and southern Plains, as well as the middle and lower Mississippi Valley.

Meanwhile, wet weather will wind down over the Northeast as a nor’easter drifts over eastern Canada. The eastern third of the country will experience pleasant weather as high pressure builds over the region.
