A strong low pressure system will move across the Great Lakes on Monday, while unsettled weather will persist over the Northwest.
A large area of low pressure will shift northeastward over the Great Lakes on Monday. This system will usher heavy snow showers over portions of the upper Midwest and the western Great Lakes, while a mixture of rain and snow will be possible from the middle Mississippi Valley to the eastern Great Lakes. Due to warmer temperatures over the eastern third of the country, light to moderate rain can be expected over New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic. In addition, moisture will continue to pool northward from the Gulf of Mexico. As this moisture collides with a cold frontal boundary, showers and thunderstorms will fire up over the southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast. Conditions will clear up across the Plains and the Deep South as high pressure settles in over the region.
Meanwhile, an unsettled weather pattern will persist across the Pacific Northwest and the Intermountain West. An onshore flow from the Pacific will usher light rain over western Washington and western Oregon, especially during the late afternoon and evening. High elevation snow showers will be possible over the Cascades. Just to the east, light to moderate snow showers will spread across the Rockies. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions mostly dry across the Southwest and the Great Basin on Monday.
