Winter weather will impact the Intermountain West on Thursday, while a cold front will slide across the Eastern Seaboard.
An area of low pressure will move east southeastward over the Pacific Northwest and the Intermountain West. This system will usher moderate to heavy snow showers over the Washington Cascades, the Wasatch and the Rockies. The heaviest snow showers will impact the central and northern Rockies, as the highest elevations will receive between one and two feet of snow. In addition, pockets of light to moderate showers will be possible across the West Coast and the Great Basin. Just to the east, a cold front will extend across the the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. As this system shifts eastward, a line of snow showers will develop across northern Nebraska, South Dakota, southern North Dakota, southern Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin. Several inches of snow accumulation will be possible across the region. High pressure will keep weather conditions clear across the southern Plains and the Deep South.
Meanwhile, a cold front will extend across the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. As this cold front moves over the western Atlantic, a line of thunderstorms will develop from Florida to Virginia. Light to moderate rain is forecast for the northern Mid-Atlantic and the coast of New England, while a mixture of rain and snow will be possible across the interior Mid-Atlantic and interior New England.
