FDNY Rescues Two Boys On the Bronx River

January 29,2015
Two young boys were pulled off a semi-frozen section of the Bronx River in New York Thursday afternoon.WNBC reports firefighters and EMS retrieved the children in the Soundview area wearing special cold-weather suits. It's not clear how rescuers knew the boys were in trouble, but aerial photos and video show the nervous moments as one of the boys stood in the middle of the ice alone.

Although a winter storm recently dumped about 10 to 12 inches of snow on the area earlier this week, temperatures rose into the mid-30s Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures above freezing combined with the weight of fresh snow could surely weaken any ice.The boys were taken to a hospital but are expected to be okay.
