A low pressure system will slide across the Great Lakes on Thursday, while a separate system will develop over the Southwest.
An area of low pressure will move east southeastward over the Great Lakes. This system will bring light to moderate snow showers to the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes during Thursday morning. A mixture of light rain, freezing rain and snow will develop from Illinois to the Ohio Valley. Freezing rain advisories are already in place over northern Ohio. During Thursday afternoon and evening, heavy snow showers will impact the eastern Great Lakes, the interior Mid-Atlantic and parts of northwest New England. Lighter snow will spread across interior and coastal New England throughout the evening. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southwestward. Light rain will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over the Tennessee Valley, as well as parts of the Deep South and the southern Mid-Atlantic.
Meanwhile, a Pacific system will move northeastward over the Desert Southwest. This system will usher light to moderate rain over southern California, the southern Great Basin and the Four Corners. Winter storm watches have been issued over eastern Arizona and New Mexico in anticipation of snow showers over the southern Rockies. The majority of the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West will experience a calm weather pattern on Thursday.
