The
Southeastern states will remain chilly again on Sunday, while another
low pressure system brings rain and snow to the northern Plains, upper
Midwest and Great Lakes region on Sunday. A broad ridge of high pressure
over the Eastern Valleys will continue pushing cold air southward on
Sunday. This will allow for temperatures to remain 10 to 25 degrees
below seasonable from the lower Mississippi River Valley through the
mid-Atlantic states and northward into the Ohio River Valley. Freeze
advisories will remain in effect for the Tennessee Valley and
Southeastern states as early morning low temperatures are expected to
drop into the mid- and upper 20s for these areas.
Meanwhile in the North, a low pressure system that brought scattered rain showers to the Intermountain West and northern Rockies on Saturday continues moving eastward over the north-central states on Sunday. This system will pull cooler air in from Canada, allowing for snow showers to develop for parts of northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin, moving into the Great Lakes. Rain showers are expected elsewhere across the Midwest and Great Lakes with this system.
In the West, another trough of low pressure dips into the Pacific Northwest from British Columbia and kicks up scattered rain showers for northwestern Washington on Sunday. High pressure dominating across the Southwestern states and the rest of the West Coast will keep this moisture to the north, and maintain warm and dry conditions for most of the Western states.
