A cold front swinging into the East will bring the threat of severe thunderstorms to part of the region during the first half of the weekend.
As is typically the case, the strongest storms are forecast to develop during the afternoon hours and continue through the evening.
"Strong storms could initially develop around the early afternoon, 2 p.m. time frame, in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. For areas farther south and east, storms will arrive later into the evening," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Andrew Mussoline.

These storms can become rather disruptive for anyone with outdoor plans during the first full weekend of summer, especially to those headed to the beach.

The highest threat for severe weather is forecast to extend from Baltimore to northeastern South Carolina.
Storms in this area will be capable of producing strong damaging winds and flooding downpours that could slow driving conditions.
Conditions are favorable for a few tornadoes to develop from the strongest storms.
Mussoline noted, "it is very important to pay attention to warnings today since it's a situation where tornadoes could be involved."
This zone includes cities such as Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh, Charlotte, and Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Columbia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Saturday's stormy weather isn't expected to stick around for long as the cold front responsible for the thunderstorms pushes off the coast in the overnight hours.
This will allow for drier, less humid air to filter across central and southern Appalachia for the second half of the weekend.
