Tropical Depression Nine-E Has Formed in the Eastern Pacific

Highlights:

  • Tropical Depression Nine-E has formed more than 1,400 miles southwest of Los Cabos, Mexico.
  • Tropical Depression Nine-E is forecast to become a tropical storm by Thursday morning and could be near hurricane strength Friday or Saturday. The next named storm in the eastern Pacific would be Guillermo.
  • For the next five days, the system is forecast to stay over open waters as it moves to the west-northwest in the general direction of Hawaii.
  • It's too early to speculate on whether this system will eventually have any impact on the Hawaiian Islands.
  • Air Force Hurricane Hunters are tentatively scheduled to investigate this system on Friday.
