An area of low pressure will shift across the Plains and the Mississippi Valley on Monday, while a ridge of high pressure builds along the coast of California.
A low pressure system will push east northeastward across the central Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. This system will usher light to moderate snow showers across the Intermountain West, the central Plains, the northern Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley and the upper Mississippi Valley. Snow will spread across the upper Midwest during late Monday evening. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will stretch south southwestward. This frontal boundary will collide with moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, generating light to moderate rain across the western Gulf Coast, the Deep South, the Tennessee Valley and the Ohio Valley. A ridge of high pressure will build over the western Atlantic, keeping conditions dry across the East Coast.
Meanwhile, a low pressure system will move slowly across the northern Pacific. A warm frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southeastward. Light precipitation will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over northern California, western Oregon and western Washington. High pressure over the eastern Pacific will influence a dry weather pattern across the Southwest and the Great Basin.
