An area of low pressure will transition across the East Coast on Friday, while a separate system moves over the Plains.
A low pressure system will trek east northeastward across the Northeast. This system will usher a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow across New England and the interior portion of the northern Mid-Atlantic. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward from Upstate New York to the eastern Gulf Coast. As this frontal boundary shifts east northeastward, it will initiate rain and thunderstorms across the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast and the eastern Gulf Coast. In addition, mixed precipitation will be possible from the eastern Ohio Valley to the central Appalachians.
Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will move east southeast across the northern Plains and the western edge of the Midwest. A light mixture of rain and snow will spread over a large span of the Intermountain West and the Plains. A cold frontal boundary stretching southwestward will bring chances of showers and isolated thunderstorms to the central and southern Plains, as well as the middle Mississippi Valley.
A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions warm and dry across the Southwest.
