Hurricane Gaston is expected to spin well away from land in the central Atlantic the next several days as it turns northeast away from Bermuda. Gaston is the third Atlantic hurricane of 2016, and became the first major hurricane (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Scale) of the season Sunday evening.

Here's the latest on Gaston:
- Gaston was centered nearly 600 miles east of Bermuda, as of Sunday evening, moving northwest at about 5 mph.
- Little change in strength is expected into Monday.
- While over 1,000 miles off the East Coast, Gaston is also likely to generate swells that will reach the East Coast Monday and Tuesday. Dangerous rip currents are possible.
- Gaston may move just north of the Azores in the northeast Atlantic by next weekend.
