A low pressure area brought stormy conditions to the Midwest on Saturday, while a tropical disturbance kept thunderstorms in the picture for the Gulf Coast.
A wave of low pressure transitioned east northeastward across the upper Mississippi Valley. This system, combined with a warm frontal boundary, initiated rain and thunderstorms over portions of the northern Plains and the Midwest. Severe thunderstorm warnings and flood advisories were issued in western Minnesota. Moorhead, Minn., reported 1.00 inch sized hail. Waseca, Minn., reported a midday total of 0.99 of an inch of rain. Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued in parts of Ohio. Middletown, Ohio, reported a two foot diameter tree down due to straight line winds. Toledo, Ohio, reported a midday total of 1.23 inches of rain.
Just to the south, a tropical disturbance over the northern Gulf of Mexico generated rain and thunderstorms over parts of the Deep South. Flood warnings were issued in southern Louisiana on Saturday. Another tropical disturbance brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Florida Peninsula.
Meanwhile, monsoonal thunderstorms fired up across the Four Corners. Flash flood watches were issued for a large section of Arizona. Flagstaff, Ariz., reported a midday total of 0.94 of an inch of rain. High pressure kept most of the West Coast clear of wet weather on Saturday. San Diego, Calif., recorded a midday high of 70 degrees. Seattle, Wash., recorded a midday high of 65 degrees.
