Chilly winds to howl across Great Lakes early this week

Gusty winds will accompany a push of chilly air across the Great Lakes through Tuesday.
"A strong system across Lake Superior will bring gusty winds to the Great Lakes region early this week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Kevin Gilmore said.
The blustery conditions will expand southeastward from Minnesota to Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
Gusts could reach 25 to 35 mph, Gilmore said.

Even higher gusts are possible, especially along the lake shorelines, he said.
Compared to relatively tranquil conditions in recent weeks, the winds will stir up waves across much of the Great Lakes. Small craft should exercise caution in the choppy waters.
There will a zone around western Lake Superior, where gusts may reach 55 mph.
"The combination of gusty winds and waterlogged trees and tree limbs can cause sporadic power outages," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
"Many of the trees are now top-heavy and the ground is soggy due to recent excessive rainfall," he said.
The conditions will make it easier than usual for trees to topple over and large tree limbs to crash down.
Fallen leaves can be blown around in yards and clog storm drains in streets.
Lightweight outdoor furniture, lawn items, trash cans and grill coverings should be brought inside or stowed away in garages or sheds to prevent them from becoming projectiles.

Following peak winds in Green Bay, Wisconsin; Traverse City, Michigan; and Chicago into Monday evening, the blustery conditions will spread to Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday.
The blustery conditions will follow in the wake of a cold front, which will send temperatures tumbling 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit below average.
Highs will generally range from the middle 50s to middle 60s in much of Michigan, Wisconsin, northwestern Ohio and northern Illinois and Indiana into Tuesday.
AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures could dip into the upper 40s and lower 50s where the brisk winds are combined with clouds and lake-effect showers.

Residents may want to grab a jacket and umbrella before heading out the door.
As a consolation, the windy weather will usher in much drier air and a pattern change to the Upper Midwest.
"The drier weather patter will allow streams and rivers to recede in the coming days," Sosnowski said.
Less windy conditions are expected to move into the western Great Lakes from Wednesday into Thursday.
However, damp and dreary conditions are likely to persist across the central and eastern Great Lakes and expand into the Northeast for the second half of the week.
