An airplane carrying Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence slid off a rain-soaked runway upon landing at LaGuardia Airport, but no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. EDT Thursday night as the plane attempted a landing at the airport, which had experienced delays and even a few cancellations due to rainy weather in New York City. The plane made a rough landing and mud splashed on the cockpit's front windows, Pence told the Associated Press.
"Moderate rain and occasionally breezy weather was occurring during the 7 p.m. hour at LaGuardia Airport," said weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Belles. "Rain has been ongoing at the airport since late morning. Visibility was also lowered to around 3 miles."

After the plane came to a stop, the passengers evacuated the aircraft through the back, the AP also reported. The plane's hard impact on the runway left the tarmac damaged, according to an ABC News video posted to Twitter. The airport was closed indefinitely following the incident.
Pence tweeted earlier in the evening that their plane was unable to take off from Iowa because of a ground stop at LaGuardia.
A ground hold at Laguardia led to some football on the tarmac in Iowa.
