Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,November 21,2016

An extensive frontal system will impact the western half of the country on Monday, while lake effect snow persists in the Northeast.

A cold frontal boundary will stretch south southwestward from the upper Intermountain West to the Southwest. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will produce moderate to heavy rain and high elevation snow in the Southwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect for parts of the Rockies, the Sierra Nevada and the higher elevations of southern California. Locally heavy snow is expected to impact western Colorado and northwest New Mexico. An onshore flow from the Pacific will also keep showers in the forecast for northwest California, western Oregon and western Washington. As this frontal boundary moves over the central third of the country, showers and thunderstorms will break out across a large portion of the Plains. High pressure should keep most areas dry from the Mississippi Valley to the Southeast.

Meanwhile, a cold air mass will continue to surge southeastward over the Great Lakes and the Northeast. This cold air will interact with the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, which will lead to lake effect snow in northern Pennsylvania, New York and northwest New England.
