Germany: Cool weekend to fade to heat surge next week

The cool weather starting this weekend across Germany is expected to fade to another surge of heat and humidity next week.
The way will be paved for cool air to continue to pour across Germany into Saturday with a dip in the jet stream overhead.
Highs throughout the country will be held to within a degree or two of 20 C (66-72 F) on Saturday. The lower Rhine River Valley will feel slightly warmer, with highs near 23 C (75 F).
Highs in mid-July typically range from 22 C (72 F) in Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin to around 23 C (74 F) in Karlsruhe and Munich.

Anyone with outdoor plans to start the weekend will also want to keep an umbrella handy as showers will stream over northern and eastern areas.
Temperatures will rebound back to normal on Sunday as the jet stream shifts eastward and the cool pocket departs. Western Germany will feel warmer than normal, with highs in the middle 20s C (upper 70s F) expected.

A shower will still threaten to interfere with weekend plans across northern Germany on Sunday as a cold front approaches.
That front will open the door for fresh seasonably cool air to press into northern Germany on Monday, while temperatures further soar in the south.
Temperatures rising will be the theme for the country the rest of next week as a flow of air from the southwest develops, allowing heat and higher humidity to surge in.

Around Wednesday and Thursday of next week, temperatures are expected to climb 6-9 degrees Celsius (10-15 degrees Fahrenheit) above normal. That will translate into widespread highs from the middle 20s to the lower 30s C (80s F). Temperatures in the hottest locations will crack 32 C (90 F).
The increased humidity will result in even higher AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures.
With the turn to hotter weather, the chance for thunderstorms will also rise ahead of a cold front advancing eastward later next week.
Despite what its name implies, the front is likely not to be successful in returning temperatures back to normal by next weekend. Above-normal warmth will instead hold.
