Typhoon Nesat is strengthening and is expected to make landfall in Taiwan Saturday. Nesat will bring the threat of flooding rain and mudslides to Taiwan and China this weekend into next week. A tropical depression, currently west of the Philippines' Luzon island, will quickly follow Nesat to eastern mainland China with heavy rain.

Current Storm Status
Nesat is forecast to continue tracking northwestward into this weekend.
All the while, Tropical Depression 12W will be moving northward toward eastern China closely behind Nesat.
A very moist pocket of air surrounding Nesat and Tropical Depression 12W will continue to bring heavy rain to Luzon into this weekend. Luzon is located in the northern region of the Philippines and is the largest and most populous island of the archipelago, home to the country's capital city, Manila.

Nesat should make landfall in Taiwan by late Saturday, local time, then push into China by early Sunday.
The second part of this one-two punch for Taiwan and eastern China will pass western Taiwan midday Sunday, local time, and into China early Monday.
Land interaction over the mountainous terrain of Taiwan should lead to the significant weakening of Nesat by the time it reaches the coast of China, but it could still be the equivalent of a minor hurricane.

Projected Path
The main impacts in Taiwan and China will be heavy rain, flooding and mudslides from this weekend into next Tuesday or Wednesday. Strong and gusty winds will also be a concern.

Luzon will also deal with heavy rain capable of producing flooding and mudslides into at least this weekend, depending on the forward speed of the tropical cyclones.
